Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What age or grade levels do you serve?

    • We have two groups, one of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, and another of 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  If your student is slightly outside of this range, but is very interested in our program, please register anyway and a team member will discuss options with you.

  • What time is program?

    • Program begins at 10:00AM. You may drop off your student up to 30 minutes before. Program ends at 2:00PM. It is extremely important that you pick up your student no later than 2:30PM.

  • What are you teaching this summer?

    • This summer's theme is "Building and Coding in Accessibility".  For example, students will be using hands-on materials like Makey-Makeys to increase their understanding of circuits. Find out more at makeymakey.com

  • How is the day structured?

    • Part of the day, the one group is indoors working with delicate electronics, while the other group is enjoying outdoor beauty and fresh air (and still doing STEM-related activities).  At midpoint, they switch. Plenty of water and shade is provided in case the day becomes hot.

  • What if my child gets hungry?

    • We have a commitment to nutrition and youth voice.  We provide healthy snacks and a modest, nutritionally-sound meal at midday. At times, snacks and meal options may be requested by the students and are sometimes accommodated. If your student has very specific dietary needs or wants, we do allow and encourage them to bring something from home. Please ensure it does not spoil easily as we do not have access to an on-site refrigerator.

  • Can parents stay to observe the program?

    • We are thrilled when parents want to become partners with us in supporting the youth. However, our insurance requires that only individuals who have successfully passed a background check, completed specific training, and have signed a volunteer form can stay on-premises with the youth. If you are still interested in acting as a volunteer, we can help guide you through the process, but we cannot subsidize any of the associated costs since GOKIC is not actively looking for volunteers at this time.
